Without structured plans, it can be easy to feel bored, as though time is slipping away, so we wanted to offer you some exciting and meaningful summer activities that cater to your mental health needs and allow you to make the most of your summer.

Note: It's important to highlight that June is Men's Health Month, emphasizing the importance of mental health for young men. Taking care of your mind is a human thing - we hope that the engaging and productive activities shared will play a crucial role in combating boredom and managing stress while nurturing overall wellness.

Discover Productive Summer Ideas

Below - choose from various summer activities to uplift your spirits and align with your desired mood. Identify your ideal mood and select a corresponding activity to immerse yourself in. By planning to engage in these activities, you can boost your mental strength and elevate your summer experience.

Mood: Explore New Hobbies and Interests to Minimize Boredom

Are you feeling frustrated, like so many other young adults, because you have nothing to do this summer? This could be the ideal opportunity to explore new hobbies and interests. This type of frustration is a personal choice, one that is within your control to change. Instead of focusing on your boredom, try shifting your perspective by focusing on ways to incorporate your passions into your daily routine.

Here are some activities to consider:

  • Outdoor Adventures: Hiking, camping, sports in the park, exercise, or even simple walks in nature can be refreshing and mentally stimulating.

  • Creative Pursuits: Try painting, drawing, writing, web design, content creation, or photography.

  • Volunteering: Helping others can provide a sense of purpose and community connection. It's also a great way of learning/exploring new interests.

  • Don't have any hobbies or interests? .....then a little boredom could be good for you. It might be time to spend some quality time getting to know yourself better and discovering what will bring joy, fulfillment, and meaning to your life. Consider picking up your favorite mindfulness journal and use this summer to start your journey of self-discovery.

Mood: Craft and Execute a Solid Plan
...just as you envisioned

Are you concerned that you'll look back on this summer and feel like it was uneventful, holding you back from truly savoring the season? It's easy to get frustrated when plans go wrong, but doing nothing doesn't improve the situation. Take the time to outline and organize your summer activities. What experiences do you want to have? When are you aiming to do them? Will they require budgeting or coordination with others? Whatever it is you aspire to do, mapping out the specifics can serve as motivation to act on your desires.

Based on your plans, here are a few ways you can go about achieving your goals:

  • Learning New Skills: Enroll in online courses, workshops, and summer training, watch tutorials, or connect with a classmate who enjoys the same skill (e.g., cooking, coding, language learning).

  • Be Outside: Write down the activities or events you will attend. Do you have any upcoming celebrations? Being outside is only fun when you're not aimlessly trying to find something to do. Check out what's going on and decide what you will do.

  • Get in Shape: Join a sports league, start a new workout regimen, commit to better eating habits, join a group activity, or practice yoga. Choose something you love doing that helps you get in shape.

  • Learn More Bout Yourself: Spend time in meditation, create a routine that intentionally builds in quiet time, journal to track your thoughts, try out new things, or connect to what makes you feel most authentic.

Here are some cool ways to discover activities that align with personal interests and passions:

  • Join Clubs or Groups: Whether it's a book club, sports team, or hobby group, connecting with others can be highly engaging and expand your view of local activities.
